Bundesliga Title Decider
The biggest game of the German season takes place on the upcoming weekend. Dortmund has led in the league table since very early on, but the reigning champions, Bayern Munich have established their form and now look to climb to the summit of the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich Update
Munich’s hunt for a seventh straight Bundesliga title and undoubtedly been their tightest battle for years. Whereas Dortmund started the season dominantly, Munich was anything but that. Under the new manager of Niko Kovac, the club stuttered through to the midway point of the season. They lost three games in the opening seven against Hertha Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach. These two games saw Munich conceded seven goals without reply. Kovac quickly came under pressure, and that was compounded with a third defeat of the season against Dortmund.
Talk began circulating that the former Frankfurt manager would be relieved of his duties at Christmas, but a solid start to the Bundesliga when it resumed saved his blushes. Since January Munich have won eight of their ten fixtures and look a strong bet to win the title; as the home advantage will be crucial against Dortmund. The long-term future of their Croatian manager seems to hinge on the outcome of the fixture at the Allianz against Dortmund; with a second-placed finish likely to cement his position. It’s a fixture that Kovac dare not lose.
